A ring is an eternal symbol of love, and choosing just the right
engagement or wedding ring is a decision that requires finding a professional jeweler you
can trust. Your jeweler should be able to help you determine the 4C's of your stone. Cut,
Color, Clarity and Carat together determine the value of any diamond. Working within your
budget, your jeweler will help you choose the perfect stone and setting.
Shop at a reputable
jeweler and request a
detailed gemological report of any stone you choose to buy.
If don't know a jeweler ask friends for
recommendations. Research the 4C's of diamonds to be certain the jeweler is offering you
accurate information.
Ask questions about service and product
guarantees.
There are a number to decisions to make about the
style of ring you would like, these include decisions about the shape of the stone (oval,
round, marquis, pear, princess, emerald etc); the type of metal your band will be made of
(yellow gold, white gold, platinum); what style of prong setting you would like
(traditional, tension, channel, tulip). Ask to see a number of different styles to help
you determine which would be best for the bride.
- Make sure you have an insurance appraisal done on your ring as
soon as possible and call your insurance company to find out what information they need to
add your ring to your existing policy.
- Consider what style wedding band will fit with the engagement
ring you choose. Some rings will require custom designed bands.
- If you have a particular look in mind, and you just can't seem to
find it, try going to a jeweler who specializes in custom design to have your own unique
ring made for you.
